Your sofa is highly likely to be that one item in your home which will be with you for a very long time. The average person will buy a new sofa every 10 to 15 years. So if you are in the market for a new sofa and you consider yourself that average person who will keep their sofa for that 10 to 15 year period, when choosing your new seating partner here are a few tips worth bearing in mind:


1. Size

Be sure to think forward, you may move home and your new home may be smaller or larger where your current nest, so an average sized sofa that fits in well with the room sizes of most homes will serve you well.

Choose a sofa with a classic or retro design that can be always be dressed up or down with the use of accessories such as cushions and throws.

There are sofas out there on the market that have been designed with versatility in mind. These sofas may come with movable or interchangeable parts which will enable you to change the look and feel or function of the sofa and space, a great way to switching up the way your home looks at any point in time.



6. Durability

Aside from ensuring your sofa has good warranty coverage, another consideration to ensure it stands the test of time is to understand from the manufacturer how best it can be cleaned. However, if you opt for a gorgeous fabric sofa, will you be fretting any time you have friends round for a glass of red wine? Be sure you understand the manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions for cleaning.



7. Mobility

How easily can your new sofa be moved from room to room, or home to home? You definitely don’t want a sofa that weighs like a lump of led or is so awkwardly shaped that windows and doors need to be removed to get it in and out of your home! Click images for details
